Ten Ton Slug + Weed Prist = Epic doom metal

New Ep from the Slug, new album from the Priest

Ten Ton Slug.

Ten Ton Slug.

TWO OF Galway's most exhilarating metal bands and purveyors of some of the heaviest, sludgiest, contemporary stoner rock riffing human ears can bear, launch their latest releases with a gig in the city tonight.

Ten Ton Slug will launch their Blood And Slime EP, while Weed Priest launch their album, Consummate Darkness, in The Cellar Bar, Eglinton Street, this evening from 8.30pm. Heavy, dense, and uncompromising, both releases show the Galway metal scene remains in rude good health.

Consummate Darkness features four epic tracks, with the whole thing clocking in at 40 minutes. It sees the Priest return to the darkness of their first demo, while still managing to continue their forays into more technical riffing and a faster paced sound.

Blood and Slime is dominated by thunderous stoner riffs which combine the impact of Sabbath with some of the raw flash of early Metallica. At 25 minutes this is an EP of vast proportions, with the music perfectly capturing the lyric's tale of a giant beast roaming the land with menacing intent.

Both releases are also linked by the presence of Connemara's Seán Ó Suilleabhain. Seán, along with his brother, Micheál is a member of Ten Ton Slug, with Eoghan Wynne, Adomas Trakumas, and Ronan Ó hArrachtain. Seán is also a member of Weed Priest alongside Lithuanian frontman Adomas Trakumas, dand founder Ragas Raguckas, and Migorr. Micheál Ó Suilleabhain also guests on the Weed Priest album.

Admission is €5. Support is from death/stoner/doom metallers Genuflection; stoner band Stonecarver; and ambient DJ Ruairi O'Baoighill. The show is organised by Hexen Haus Promotions.
