Vodafone Comedy Carnival shows in The Ruby Room

THE RUBY Room in The King's Head is steeped in comedy, being home to Gerry Mallon’s legendary arts festival lunchtime comedy gigs, and a host of shows during this Bank Holiday weekend's Vodafone Comedy Carnival.

Fred Cooke’s one man show, Fredliner, comes to The Ruby Room today [Thursday October 26] at 1pm. In the show Fred, who this year has supported Tommy Tiernan and MCed The Tommy Tiernan Show, will explore his life, from the mayhem of his school days to the social chaos of his adulthood.

Tomorrow [Friday October 27] sees Ardal O’ Hanlon perform his work in progress, The Showing Off Must Go On (1pm ), while the wayward genius of Paul Currie brings absurdity in abundance with his Cats In My Mouth (3pm ).

On Saturday, Jarlath Regan, host of the Irishman Abroad podcast, performs his ground-breaking Organ Freeman show (1pm ) which tells the how and why of donating a kidney to his brother in hilarious detail. Northern Irish rising star Mickey Bartlett will be taking on the big issues: racism, sexism and his doctor telling him to avoid dairy in Typical (3pm ).

Sunday sees a terrific pair of comics performing. Stephen K Amos has charmed and entertained audiences all over the world, winning multiple awards, with his natural, assured, delivery and honest, original material. See him at 1pm. Gearoid Farrelly’s Home Truths (3pm ) will address everything from Trump to decluttering and explain why you should not toilet train a cat.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Irish comedy’s enfant terrible David McSavage puts church, politicians, alcohol, and celebrities, under scrutiny at 1pm. This show is not suitable for clergy, politicians, bankers, and economists. It is suitable for people who want a good talking to. Lastly, returning to Galway with his charming and surreal style and a new perspective on life, Cork comedian and storyteller, Chris Kent presents Moving On (3pm ), a show about living abroad and becoming a dad.
