Buy book on African life and help Alan Kerins’ charity

A new book, called Reflective Moments, is the latest fundraising initiative from GAA All-Star Alan Kerins, founder of the Alan Kerins’ African Projects.

Alan, who is from Clarenbridge, took a year out from his full-time career as a physiotherapist to raise awareness of the charity which helps the disadvantaged and poor in Africa.

Its recent achievements include building schools for 5,000 children, providing wells for clean drinking and crop irrigation for more than 60 villages. It also funds Cheshire Homes for disabled and orphaned children throughout Africa.

The book, which costs €10, is inspired by African life. It features a colourful collection of photographs and draws comparisons between the complexities and simplicities of African and Irish lifestyles.

The proceeds will go to Alan Kerins African Projects and the Pallotti Secondary School, Tanzania so these charities can continue to develop a range of services, schools and homes for adults and children in Africa. To date, the charity has raised more than €1 million.

“Supporting charities is more vital now than ever as there is less to go around. For charities to progress we need to identify and empathise with people by encouraging friendship partnerships. This book is a perfect example,” says Mr Kerins.

“I was really honoured when given this book to raise funds for the charity. Being photographed in Africa and published here in Galway, it is something very close to my heart. We want our fundraising to be inspirational and worthwhile for those here at home too. Reflective Moments extends beyond a book of colourful photography to an earthly reflection of our basic needs in life. It truly captures the reader’s full attention and interest, and really is a beautiful Mother’s Day gift.”

The book can be bought at the Eyre Square Shopping Centre on Saturday March 21 and from Poppyseed, Clarinbridge throughout March.
