Cancer Week event at Strive Clinic

Cancer Week Ireland is about opening up a national conversation about cancer, and for communities and organisations, large and small, to be part of that conversation this September. Cancer Week Ireland takes place from Monday, September 25, to Sunday, October 1, and aims to inspire every community to take part.

Strive Clinic is hosting an event in Galway for Cancer Week and invites anyone who is living with or beyond cancer to join in on the conversation.

Cancer rehabilitation is medical care that aims to reduce the troubling effects of cancer and cancer treatment so you can reach your maximum potential and live the best quality of life possible.

Cancer rehabilitation specialists diagnose and manage complex problems relating to cancer and its treatment. Rehabilitation will help you manage any physical, psychological, and cognitive (thinking/concentration ) problems that may develop. Cancer rehabilitation aims to maintain or restore physical movement and function, lower symptom burden, maximise independence, and improve your quality of life.

A Conversation About Cancer Rehabilitation aims to provide practical tips and tools to people living with or beyond cancer, along with their family members, friends, or carers — leave with practical advice on how to manage troubling after-effects of cancer and its treatment.

Professor Michael Kerin, professor of surgery at NUIG and Galway University Hospital notes: “International best practice shows benefit of multifaceted rehab for patients after cancer. Our cancer programme here in Galway will be hugely enhanced by having access to the services at Strive Clinic. Rehabilitation is commonplace internationally so it is fantastic to have access to these services here.”

The specialist team of cancer rehabilitation professionals from Strive Clinic will be present and will host a panel discussion on the management of common issues such as:

Fatigue.

Lymphoedema.

Memory and concentration problems.

Incontinence.

Speech and swallow problems.

Exercise tolerance.

Mental health challenges.
