Paul Muldoon brings his Picnic to the Town Hall

Leading Irish poet to be joined by Cait O'Riordan, Lisa Hannigan, Declan O’Rourke, Paul Murray, and Sinéad Morrissey

PAUL MULDOON, the Pulitzer Prize winning Irish poet and former Oxford professor of poetry, librettist for operas, and rock lyricist who has worked with The Handsome Family and Warren Zevon, is coming to Galway.

The poet, who has also won the TS Eliot Prize and is poetry editor of the New Yorker, is combining his love of poetry and music, and bringing a star-studded cast to the Town Hall Theatre for Muldoon's Picnic on Tuesday August 29 at 8pm. This is a rare chance to see the show outside of New York.

The event will see Muldoon, and his band Rogue Oliphant - featuring The Pogues former bassist Cait O'Riordan - joined by singer-songwriters Lisa Hannigan and Declan O’Rourke, the novelist Paul Murray, and another TS Eliot prize-winning poet in Sinéad Morrissey. Muldoon has called the event "an omnium-gatherum" of words and music, while Time Out said it was a "music-and-literature extravaganza".

The tour is presented by Poetry Ireland and supported by an Arts Council and Arts Council of Northern Ireland Touring Grant, Culture Ireland and RTÉ Supporting the Arts. Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
