Galway prepare for Tipp

Galway are through to the senior camogie championship quarter-finals where they will face Tipperary in Semple Stadium on Saturday August 5.

In a double header, Dublin, who finished behind Galway in group one, will face group two runners-up Wexford.

Galway's victory over Clare by 2-11 to 0-11 last weekend in Cusack Park ensured they reached the knock-out stages, finishing just one point behind group one winners Kilkenny.

Clare was led by Chloe Morey, who bagged eight points, while Galway's Ailish O’Reilly shot seven and Orlaith McGrath added two from play. However the crucial difference came with the two goals - Rebecca Hennelly scoring from a first-half penalty before Maria Cooney’s second-half goal ensured Galway pulled away after Clare had closed the gap to a single point.

It was an industrious campaign for Galway who finished one point behind leaders Kilkenny. Interestingly Galway scored considerably more points than any of their group rivals which bodes well for the knock-out stages - some 98 compared to Kilkenny's 76.

In group two Tipperary finished behind unbeaten Cork, who with 92 points look the team to beat again this season, and Wexford.

Tipperary lost three of their fixtures, losing to Limerick, Wexford and Cork, yet they show their scoring prowess with six goals in two matches, including a 3-13 to 2-13 win over Offaly in their last group game, which saw them snatch the quarter-final berth.

Both fixtures will be broadcast live on RTÉ and the winners of these ties will progress to the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship semi-finals on Saturday August 19 where they will face either Cork or Kilkenny who advanced directly to the semi-finals having topped their respective groups.
