Minors hope to collect back-to-back titles

The Galway minors under the management of Stephen Joyce will be hoping to win a second successive provincial title when they take on Sligo in Pearse Stadium on Sunday at noon.

The minors defeated Mayo by 3-15 to 0-11 in the quarter-finals, and beat Roscommon by 1-13 to 1-6 in the semi-final at Pearse Stadium.

Joyce can call upon some of last year's squad that won the Connacht final, such as impressive team captain Seán Mulkerrin at full-back, defenders Eoin McFadden, Liam Boyle, Darragh Silke, and the imposing Evan Murphy from Salthill/Knocknacarra.

The only injury concern for this weekend is Oughterard's Dan Kenny, who scored two goals in the win over Mayo, but had to miss the semi-final due to injury.

It will be touch and go to whether he can make a contribution on Sunday or not. Other players who have impressed in the run-in to the final include goal-keeper Oran Burke, Brian Harlowe, Séan Fitzgerald and Gavin Burke.

Joyce is confident if his panel play to their best, they can be Connacht champions again.

"We have trained hard and the lads played really well and showed great character to beat Roscommon in the semi-final," he says. "Sligo have done a lot of work at underage and schools level, but we believe if we play as we know we can, we will be good enough to come through with a win. The lads have put in huge work and it is up to them to produce a performance they can be proud of this weekend. We believe in them."
