Summer should be a time of the year where you make room to do some relaxing activities and unwind a little. Trying to forget about your stress triggers is often difficult though. Advertiser.ie is here to suggest some activities that may help you to do just that.

1. Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese spiritual healing practice that aims to reduce stress and promote relaxation. Reiki is administered by the hands, placed lightly on or near the body of the patient. The healing energy from the body and hands of the Reiki practitioner flows to the patient.

The patient then experiences feelings of relaxation, mental clarity, pain relief, decreased anxiety, and a sense of well-being. There is science to back this up, with research showing that this occurs because the activity of parasympathetic autonomic nervous system in the patient increases significantly.

Reiki can also help reduce depression and anxiety by changing your mood. Once your mood improves, the positive changes are accompanied by reduced anxiety. Not only does your anxiety reduce, you can also see significant decrease in depression, anger, and confusion. Your positive energy increases and the loss of vigour that comes with depression also improves.

2. Massage therapy

Massage therapy is often the go to activity for complete relaxation, and for good reason. If you are feeling stressed or suffering from some mild physical pain, a good old fashioned massage should not be discounted. Massages ease muscle pain, helps rectify postural stress from sitting down too much, it helps encourage restful sleep, and can decrease the severity of headaches.

3. Water aerobics

Water aerobics is often considered a low-intensity workout programme appropriate only for pregnant women or the elderly. However, water aerobics actually offers multiple benefits for any fitness level. Water aerobics classes come in a variety of formats, including step, Zumba, kickboxing, tai chi and yoga.

Exercising in water makes you feel about 90 per cent lighter. When you jump or run in the water, your body does not experience the same impact that these moves cause on land. This makes water aerobics an ideal activity for those with arthritis, back problems, foot or leg injuries, and knee conditions. Pregnant women and the obese also benefit from the reduced impact.

So if you have any stress related isssues, whether they be physical or not, why not try some of these activities to help ease your burden.
