Have you ever thought of improving your garden but never got around to it? Well there is no time like the present, embrace the sunny weather and make sure your garden looks exactly like you want it to. Unsure of how to go about it? Advertiser.ie is on hand to give you some garden landscaping tips.

1. Tackle those weeds and get good soil

The first thing you will need to do is pick the weeds out of your garden. Weeds draw precious moisture away from plant roots so be sure to pull them regularly. Good soil is also essential for a healthy garden, better soil holds on to water more easily and ensures plant are well nourished.

2. Combine a wide variety of plants

Choose a diverse range of plants that bloom at different times so ornamental leaves will be visible all season long. If all the flowers bloom at the same time, they will look attractive during that time frame but will lack colour the rest of the year. Try using a plant like Rozanne geranium, which lives for more than two years, because it blooms from June through October.

3. Use focal points in your garden

Good landscape designs are anchored by focal points. Water features make for great focal points, not only are they visually appealing, but they emit soothing sounds that create a tranquil garden environment. Many affordable fountains are available at the moment and are not too difficult to install.

4. Stop trampled paths in their tracks

If a trampled path is making your garden unsightly, maybe it is time to recognise that path, with the installation of some concrete or slate paving stones over it. This can turn the well trodden eyesore into a key feature in your new look garden.

5. Use your space wisely

Gardens come in all shapes and sizes, so there is no one true landscaping idea that will work everywhere. Add interest to your garden with structure, using low fences or hedges, for example, to divide spaces, and give each space or room its own unique identity. Island flowerbeds also help to break up the rigidity of some gardens and can be even more effective on a raised height.

Making these changes can go a long way to creating a more aesthetically pleasing garden to cultivate and enjoy!
