Damien Dempsey plays Black Box next week

Derry folk singer-songwriter Declan McLoughlin announced as support

DAMIEN DEMPSEY, deservedly described by The Guardian as "one of Ireland’s great singer-songwriters" and by The Daily Express as "one astonishingly gifted individual", returns to Galway next week.

Damien plays The Black Box Theatre on Thursday June 8 at 8pm, as part of an Irish tour to promote his new album, Soulsun. As the singer-songwriter said of in a recent Facebook post: “I'm feeling very grateful and lucky to still be writing and playing music to growing audiences who don’t forget me even when I disappear for a while. I can’t wait to bring these new songs of hope and redemption to people this summer, it's time to lift some hearts."

When I interviewed Damien last year as he was working on the album, he said: "I want to give people hope in the music, to help them through dark times, and include some of the wisdom I've picked up along the way. I never want to repeat myself from album to album, and Soul Son will be a bit different."

Support is from Derry folk singer-songwriter Declan McLoughlin, previously a member of The Screaming Bin Lids and The Whole Tribe Sings. He has released the solo album No Big Deal, and the EPs Part One and Part Two. His music has been played on BBC Radio Ulster, Electric Mainline and various north American radio shows, including Radio Irish.

The concert is a 'Monroe's presents...' event. Tickets are €29 plus booking fee, and are available from the Town Hall (www.tht.ie, 091 - 569777 ); www.monroes.ie; and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street. See also www.damiendempsey.com
