Galway Food Tours and McCambridges launch urban gourmet picnic service

Sheena Dignam of Galway Food Tours has teamed up with the food specialists at McCambridges to launch the Galway Gourmet Picnic. McCambridges is a name that is synonymous with Galway and great food in the west, and the link up with Galway Food Tours on gourmet hampers means that tourists and Galwegians get a chance to eat that picnic hamper that you always intended making, instead of ending up with soggy sandwiches and a bag of crisps.

The picnic baskets offerings include a nod to Irish meat and cheese with a feast for two people, including a selection of Irish meats (McGeogh’s air dried lamb, McCambridges roast ham, Fingals chorizo ) with Irish cheeses (Killeen Goat, Fenugreek, Young Buck Blue Cheese ), bottles of Juicy Lucy waters, and a bottle of red or white wine all for €48.

The Galway Spread basket priced at €55 for two people is a picnic basket that you would eat happily in your car on a rainy day. The picnic includes olives and hummus, turnip sushi from WA Café, Killeen Goats Cheese, fresh sandwiches with local mackerel, Irish yogurt/fresh fruit salad, a Hazel Mountain chocolate bar, two local craft beers or a bottle of red or white wine or Victorian lemonade.

This Galway picnic service is not just about food, which each basket containing a detailed map with all the best al fresco dining spots in the city. Craic & Divilment, the oddity production outfit based in in Galway’s West End, has come on board with the picnic service with adult colouring bookings, so with the best of food, some light refreshments, and mindful colouring, an afternoon of sheer relaxation and great food can be on offer in Galway.

Opening its doors in 1925 as a ‘high class grocery, provision, wine and spirit establishment’, McCambridges has evolved into a food hall, restaurant (Upstairs at McCambridge’s ), and is also home to some of the best Irish whiskey, Scottish malts, brandy, liqueur, rum, gin, and vodka.

Today McCambridge’s is a leading light in Galway’s culinary scene, the grocer has been transformed into a food hall that is home to local artisan foods, specialty coffee, and organic fruit and veg, along with hand-picked boutique wines.

Born out of a love for Galway, local produce and food, Galway Food Tours, which began in 2013, has been walking the streets of Galway with close to 3,000 following in Sheena Dignam's footsteps. The Galway Food Tours are an experience for locals and tourists, you get to taste and experience Galway through food.
