Remove graffiti on Lough Atalia Bridge, says Leahy

“Very prominent and visible graffiti” on Lough Atalia Bridge must be removed immediately, “particularly in the run up to the Volvo Race” according to Fianna Fáil Cllr Mary Leahy.

Cllr Leahy placed a motion on the Galway City Council agenda to have the graffiti removed but was advised by City Hall officials that this is within the remit of Iarnród Éireann.

She recently contacted Iarnród Éireann to appeal for prompt action and was assured by the management that the issue will be addressed. She also said the gardaí are pursuing “a definite line of enquiry” with regard to those who defaced the bridge.

“The cost of the removal of this graffiti runs into thousands of euro,” she said, “and puts a very unfair and unnecessary burden on the already over stretched financial resources within Iarnród Éireann.”
