Time to experience the magic of Thailand

With over 16 million visitors every year, Thailand is easily South-East Asia's top destination. From delicious street food and bedazzling Buddhas to stunning beaches and famous full moon parties, Thailand has something to tickle every traveller's fancy.

So why should you choose Thailand as your next holiday destination?

1 Bangkok

Described as the perfect mix of chaos and refinement, Bangkok's many attractions will suck you in as soon as you set foot in the 'Big Mango'. Bangkok offers the country’s most varied entertainment, ranging from traditional dancing, the orchestrated bedlam of Thai boxing, to cool bars and clubs playing the latest imported sounds. The Banglamphu district is a favourite of budget travellers as there is plenty of accommodation. The district is only a short walk from the Ratanakosin area which has many famous attractions from the dazzling Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaeo, to the lively Wat Pho and the National Museum’s hoard of exquisite works of art.

For those looking for that Bangkok buzz, the dark alleys of Chinatown’s bazaars are a great shout. Shopping varies throughout the city from your typical tourist shops to local boutiques selling stunning modern decor. The thronging local markets need to be experienced as half the fun is watching the crowds.

Spending a few days wandering around the capital is a must on your Thai trip.

2 The islands

Thailand is famous for its picturesque islands with magnificent beaches and legendary parties. Ko Samui, Ko Pha-Ngan, and Ko Tao are the top three islands that to which many first timers in Thailand go. These islands are very much on the beaten track but there are many great reasons why.

Ko Samui - The largest of the three islands listed above, Ko Samui is known for the five star spa experience that it offers. When you have had all the stress removed from your body check out colourful neighbourhoods and the vibrant nightlife. Day trips to Ang Thong Marine National Park are available where you can try snorkelling and get that perfect Instagram pic.

Ko Pha-Ngan - If you like to party then Ko Pha-Ngan is your island. Here is where the full moon parties and raves take place. For those who enjoy the more peaceful way of life, the island is packed with wonderful waterfalls and charming temples.

Ko Tao - Simply a diver's paradise. With over 40 diving centres from which to choose, prices are very competitive. Shallow, warm waters and an abundance of marine life make Ko Tao ideal for first-time divers.

3 Easy to get to

One of the major plus points of selecting Thailand as your holiday of choice this year is the number of flight options. The easiest and most comfortable way of reaching Thailand is a nonstop flight to Bangkok from London. Qantas, British Airways, Thai Airways, and Eva Airways offer direct routes

from Heathrow, with the journey taking around a 11 and half hours. If the journey time on a nonstop flight is unappealing or you are not a big fan of travelling via Heathrow, there are many indirect flights from which to choose including Dublin via Copenhagen with SAS. Other hubs that fly to Thailand include Frankfurt with Lufthansa, Zurich with Swiss Airlines, Abu Dhabi with Etihad, or Dubai with Emirates. Depending on what time of year you intend on going to Thailand, plane tickets can be as little as €675 return.

4 Value for money

Thailand is great value for money. It is estimated that €30 a day can easily cover your food and drink. Accommodation-wise Thailand is very cheap. Depending on where you are a night is stay in a hostel can be as little €5 with hotels being slightly dearer at €8 per night. It is safe to say you get better bang for your buck in Thailand than you would in other tourist hotspots.

5 The people

Last but most certainly not least are the people. It is all about sanuk (fun ) when it comes to Thai people. They are quite reserved and respect your privacy, but if you are willing to mix and interact with them, you are treated like an old chum.

So there you have it. Have you booked your holiday to Thailand yet?
