Galway youth organisations to benefit from €10.6 million of national funding

Minister of State Seán Kyne has this week said that youth groups across Galway will benefit from the €10.6 million of Government funding for national youth organisations.

The funding has been allocated by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs and will benefit organisations involved in sports, the arts, and outdoor pursuits. “Many of the national organisations receiving funding have a strong presence in Galway including Scouting Ireland, the Irish Girl Guides, Catholic Guides of Ireland, Macra na Feirme and Junior Chamber Ireland,” said Minister Kyne.

“These organisations have branches and clubs in communities across Galway and will benefit from the funding. Significant funding of €2.7 million has also been allocated to Foróige with a further €2 million for Youth Work Ireland. Foróige has over 50 clubs and projects across Galway including in the communities of Athenry, Corrandulla, Claregalway, Clarinbridge, Knocknacarra, Doughiska as well as the youth hub in the city.

“Similarly, Youth Work Ireland has over two dozen clubs and projects across Galway that will be strengthened by this funding. The importance of these organisations to young people in Galway cannot be overstated as they provide opportunities to participate in sports, recreational activities and the arts while also helping to build confidence and impart a variety of skills,” he concluded.
