The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, is Available for Hire

The Mick Lally Theatre on Druid Lane, just off Quay Street, is a state of the art venue available for hire for private and public events. The building is one of Galway’s best -kept secrets and if its walls could talk, they’d have a fair amount of history to divulge.

There are three function spaces: the foyer, complete with full bar; the auditorium which seats up to 100 people and comes technically equipped; and the open-plan rehearsal room, with a sprung wooden floor which houses a kitchenette and shower facilities. Each space is available individually or as part of a complete building hire.

The venue is home to renowned Galway theatre company, Druid, who create all of their work within its walls. To many, the space is well known, but often as ‘the Druid’ or ‘Druid Lane Theatre’ among other monikers. Increasingly, over the past few years, this redesigned contemporary space has been programming an array of work and facilitating events as a venue for hire.

Originally a tea storehouse, The Mick Lally Theatre was owned by the McDonagh’s, until the family donated the building to Druid, and the City Council later named the narrow laneway running alongside it ‘Druid Lane’. In 2009, following a redesign by award-winning De Paor architects, the venue reopened after a brief hiatus. Following the death of Druid co-founder, Mick Lally, the auditorium was renamed and The Mick Lally Theatre was born.

In recent years, The Mick Lally Theatre has hosted children’s shows at Baboró International Arts Festival, experimental jams for Galway Jazz Festival, emerging theatre during Galway Theatre Festival, comedy gigs at Galway Comedy Carnival, panel discussions for Galway Food Festival, Under the Fold and Galway Design Week, weddings, launches, screenings, hustings, workshops, networking events and more. The venue hosts private, corporate and independent events as well as those on the cultural calendar and welcomes enquiries from interested parties.
