Amnesty and Oxfam to give Galway its ‘just desserts’

Just Desserts, the annual dessert making competition to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, takes place in the Galway City Museum on Thursday March 5 at 4pm.

Last year more than 200 people visited the museum for the inaugural ‘Just Desserts’ competition where they sampled Fairtrade desserts made by 10 of Galway’s leading restaurants and cafés.

This year the competition is open to everyone. All you have to do is bake, make, or cook your favourite dessert using at least two Fairtrade ingredients and bring it to the event on March 5.

The general public will then be invited to sample all the desserts and vote for their favourite dessert. The winner will be presented with a Fairtrade hamper.

The public will also have the opportunity to hear from Costa Rican coffee and sugar grower Wilbert Valverde how Fairtrade makes a difference to his cooperative Coopeagri and his community.

Entries for this competition and to the event are free, but there will be opportunities to donate to both Amnesty International Ireland and Oxfam Ireland at the event.

To enter, submit a recipe, which must include at least two Fairtrade ingredients, by Monday March 2 to Marie-Anne Michel (Amnesty International Ireland, 091 -533637, [email protected] ) or Agnes Sage (Oxfam Ireland, 091 - 561491, [email protected] ).
