Keegan brings his squad to fifteen

Gary Shanahan and Jesse Devers have signed new contracts for Galway United to keep them at Eamonn Deacy Park for another season.

Former Newcastle West midfielder Shanahan, 23, has made 106 appearances for United over the last three seasons, while former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Devers, who joined Galway United last season, was a key player in Johnny Glynn's U19 side, while also making seven appearances for the first team.

United manager Shane Keegan, who has now made 15 signings for the season ahead, says Shanahan's re-signing was important for the club.

"I think Gary is rightly somewhat of a fan favourite. He was almost an ever present in the season just finished and I suppose what any manager would say is that he's a player that you can absolutely trust."

Keegan says Mayo native Devers is a highly rated young talent, who will vie with Vinny Faherty, Ronan Murray and Padraic Cunningham for a starting berth in 2017.

"People are really saying that this is a player who, given an opportunity, and if he goes and really pushes himself this year, is capable of doing great things."
