The Importance of Being Earnest at Nuns Island Theatre

THE IMPORTANCE Of Being Earnest is Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated and best loved play. Galway will get to see this classic of mistaken identity when it is staged here next week.

The Galway Arts Centre in association with the Mephisto Theatre Company will present The Importance of Being Earnest at the Nuns Island Theatre from Tuesday March 3 to Saturday 7 at 8pm.

Jack Worthing’s brother, Earnest, gives Jack an excuse to escape from his dull country home by inviting him to the home of Algernon Moncrieff’s friend Bunbury. The problem? Earnest and Bunbury are imaginary.

Furthermore Jack loves Gwendolen, Algernon loves Cecily, but both women are in love with two men named Earnest! It all leads to much confusion and an extraordinary revelation for Jack.

Mephisto Theatre Company was established in 2006 by graduates of the MA in drama and theatre studies and the MA in writing programmes at NUI, Galway. This production will feature Eoghan Cleary, Bernard Higgins, Joan King, Caroline Lynch, Zita Monahan, John O’Dowd, and Emma O’Grady.

Tickets are €15/12 and available from the Galway Arts Centre on 091 - 565886.
