O’Donnellan & Joyce sells €3m in winter auction sales

O’Donnellan & Joyce auctioneers recorded €3 million in auction sales on Friday November 11 in its Wild Atlantic Way winter auction. The auction took place in the Harbour Hotel to a full house of keen buyers. There was standing room only for prospective owner occupiers and investors, who were given a superb selection of property to choose from, especially in Galway city.

Colm O’Donnellan commented: “Bidding was fast paced in O’Donnellan & Joyce’s auction room at the Harbour Hotel. There was tremendous interest all round. Some of the highlights of the afternoon were two fine houses for sale in Newcastle and a public house with residential property in one lot that sold in Creggs, Co Galway. No 23 Newcastle Park, a detached home, sold for €440,000, and its neighbour No 22 Upper Newcastle Road, a mid-terrace residence, sold for €340,000."

The main highlights of the day were:

Lot 1: No 1 The Oat Gallery, Bridge Street, Ballinasloe, Co Galway

Bidding opened at €19,000 for this two bedroom town centre apartment just off the old main Galway to Dublin road. Bidding was fast paced and within minutes the hammer dropped at €27,000 to a very happy investor.

Lot 2: No 18 Station House, Clifden, Co Galway

Located just off the Clifden to Galway road (N59 ) this three bed apartment is ideally situated in the courtyard behind the Station House Hotel. Guiding €65,000, bidding opened at this amount and after 29 bids from three separate parties, it sold at €101,000.

Lot 3: No 4 Eske Terrace, Castle Street, Donegal

This attractive three bed 20th century terraced residence faces on to Castle Street and overlooks the River Eske. This unique property had a lot of potential and three interested parties fought it out from the opening bid of €65,000, until a phone bidder from Donegal successfully purchased it for €78,000.

Lot 4: No 15 Dunlo Harbour, Ballinasloe, Co Galway

With an asking price of €40,000 this modern two bed apartment located in the town centre, adjacent to the Shearwater Hotel, was snapped up for €43,000.

Lot 8: No 23 Newcastle Park, Newcastle, Galway

Within very close proximity of NUIG, UHG, and within walking distance of the city centre, this property offers the prospect of a beautiful family home in a well-established area of Galway to the lucky purchaser. After 13 bids of €5,000 increments between two interested parties, Colm O’Donnellan dropped the hammer at €440,000 to the very happy purchaser.

Lot 10: No 102 Arch Court, Roscommon town

A centrally located two bed apartment within walking distance of all local amenities and sold with tenants in place, the bidding opening at €30,000 and went up in increments of €1,000. It was withdrawn at €36,000 but sold after auction for €42,750.

Lot 11: No 83 Glasan, Ballybane, Galway

This three bed semidetached maisonette located opposite GMIT and purpose built to accommodate students and summer holiday lettings, was guiding €105,000 and after 24 bids the hammer finally dropped at €126,000 to seal the deal for the relieved phone bidder.

Lot 21: Land at Coolaran, Turloughmore, Co Galway

Agricultural lands of approximately 18.97 acres (7.68 hectares ) close to Claregalway, Lackagh, and Turloughmore. With road frontage and plenty of neighbours, this fine piece of land sold for €172,000 after frantic bidding starting at €110,000. A great result offering just under €10,000 an acre.

Lot 22: No 1 Kirwan House, Flood Street, Galway

Located on the corner of Flood Street and Cross Street, with a host of shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants nearby, this city centre three bed, third floor, apartment started with an opening bid of €180,000 and after 11 bids finally sold for €230,000 to a very happy investor.

Lot 27: No 10 Cloonshanville Park, Frenchpark, Co Roscommon

Lot 27 comprised a three bed semidetached residence in need of some upgrading throughout. The property is currently rented and is being sold with tenants in place. It was guiding €32,000 and was sold very promptly for that exact amount.

Lot 29: No 5 Gleann Tain Manor, Letterkenny, Co Donegal

A two bed ground floor apartment located close to Letterkenny General Hospital and within a short walk of Letterkenny town centre. After 10 bids opening at €35,000, bidding quickly culminated in a sale price of €46,000 to a Donegal investor bidding on the phone.

Lot 31: No 12A Crescent Green, The Crescent, Galway

A two bedroom city centre duplex townhouse with large attic conversion, suitable for a variety of uses. Strolling distance to Galway’s Latin Quarter and Salthill Promenade. With an AMV of €250,000 the bidding opened at €200,000 and rose in increments of €5,000, and after 17 bids the hammer dropped at €264,000.

Lot 32: No 199 Gort na Coiribe, Headford Road, Galway

A spacious two bedroom residence in this much sought after apartment complex. Located within a leisurely stroll of Galway city centre, the property is ideally suited for owner occupier or investor given its close proximity to all facilities. With an AMV of €155,000, the bidding opened at €145,000 and sold at €190,000 after 10 bids.

Lot 33: No 4 Quayside Court, Lower Quay Street, Sligo

Modern one bed apartment located in the heart of Sligo. An ideal starter home or investment property with an AMV of €45,000. The bidding opened at €40,000 and closed at the asking price of €45,000.

Lot 35: Antonio's takeaway, Main Street, Kiltimagh, Co Mayo

A fast food restaurant with apartment overhead. Bidding opened at €15,000 and quickly rose to the sold price of €29,000 to a delighted investor.

Lot 36: Aylesbury Park, Knappaghmore, Strandhill, Sligo

1.3 acres located within the development of Aylesbury Park, Strandhill Road. Sold for the asking price of €45,000.

Lot 37: Ballymabilla, Cappataggle, Loughrea, Galway

Character laden detached three bed bungalow with a lot of original features located in a quiet, rural setting. Situated less than 20 minutes’ drive from Loughrea town and just off the M6 Galway to Dublin motorway. This property is ideal for a purchaser who craves the stillness of country living but needs the convenience that town and city provide. This quaint property requires some modernisation and upgrading but would make a perfect rural retreat. It sold after auction for €20,000.

Lot 40: Kilglass, Ahascragh, Ballinasloe, Co Galway

The bungalow is located on the Mountbellew/Ballinasloe road approximately 10km from Ballinasloe. Located close to the village of Ahascragh which is a rural village on the outskirts of Ballinasloe. The property requires some upgrading throughout. This property sold after auction for €61,750.

Lot 41: No 67 Atlantic Point, Atlantic Way, Bundoran, Co Donegal

Attractive two bed apartment with ocean views situated in the stunning seaside holiday destination of Bundoran. Excellent weekend holiday home in this popular location, it came to the market with an AMV of €35,000 and after 13 bids, two of whom were phone bidders, the hammer fell at €48,000.

Lot 43: Dereen, No 22 Upper Newcastle, Galway

The sale of Dereen was one of the highlights of the day. This terraced house, a stone’s throw from NUIG and UHG, in what is considered one of the most sought after and convenient addresses in Galway city, was guiding €330,000. It sold after fervent bidding from two interested parties for €340,000.

Lot 48: Creggs, Co Galway

Offering the best value for money, this property sale comprised a former public house with residential in one lot. Creggs is a village on the border with County Roscommon, east of Tuam and approximately one hour’s drive from Galway city centre. Tuam is only 40 minutes away. Bidding opened at the asking price of €150,000 and after 13 intense bids between two parties finally sold at €195,000.

Lot 50: No 16 Main Street, Ballinasloe, Co Galway

This ground floor retail unit with a two bedroom apartment overhead was sold with the benefit of tenants in place. Bidding opened at €45,000 and quickly escalated in bids of €5,000 to the final sale price of €75,000.
