Avail of city council’s free hazardous waste disposal services, says councillor

Cllr Colette Connolly has urged the public to avail of GCC’s initiative to provide a free hazardous waste disposal service for householders living in Galway City this Saturday, November 19.

Householders can take their hazardous waste to GCC’s recycling facility in the Liosban Industrial Estate, Tuam Road, which will operate from 8:15am – 12:00pm. However, the service is subject to the maximum capacity of the collection vehicle so it is advisable to arrive early.

Also, a restriction of 5x10 Litre paint bucket containers will apply. Commercial hazardous waste will not be accepted, says Cllr Connolly.

Cllr Connolly says it is important that householders avail of this service and are aware that Hazardous Waste includes:

— Paints, paint cans

— Fluorescent tubes, energy saving light bulbs

— Batteries

— Old medicines

— Pesticides, Insecticides

— Aerosols

— Engine Oil, Oil Containers

Such waste is extremely hazardous to the environment and should not be disposed of in the normal waste collection bins.

Cllr Connolly is calling on all householders to be environmentally responsible and avail of the free collection service.
