The Blossoms announce 2017 Galway show

Band tipped by many for great things to play Róisín Dubh

“WE WANT to be as mainstream as Will Smith, as great as The Smiths, and as uplifting as Mr Smith Goes to Washington.” So said The Blossoms who have just announced a Galway concert for 2017.

The Blossoms - Tom Ogden (vocals/guitar ), Charlie Salt (bass/vocals ), Josh Dewhurst (lead guitar ), Joe Donovan (drums ), and Myles Kellock (keyboards, vocals ) - will play Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh on Thursday March 9.

The quintet, formed in 2013 in Stockport, Greater Manchester, releasing their debut single 'You Pulled A Gun On Me' in 2014. This was followed by a slew of singles and EPs, culminating in the band's debut album, Blossoms, which came out last month and reached No 1 in Britain and No 12 in Ireland. It was described as sounding "less like a debut and more like a greatest-hits album from a veteran group" by Allmusic.com; Andy Gill in The Independent echoed that comment, saying: "Stockport’s Blossoms have been acclaimed as saviours of indie-pop for so long now that this debut album is in effect a singles compilation" and he praised the band's "sparkling melodies and seemingly blue-chip hooks".

The Guardian has called the band, "unashamedly indie, but they have ambitions to be more pop"; while the NME declared them, "this year’s biggest guitar-pop shooting stars".
