A season of Brahms begins next week

SOME OF Johannes Brahms' most iconic pieces of chamber music will be performed by six outstanding musicians as part of the opening concert of a season of music where Brahms is centrestage.

Music For Galway's Aimez-Vous Brahms? season opens next week with a concert featuring France's Quatuor Van Kuijk, the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition winners; ConTempo's Andreea Banciu on viola; and leading Irish pianist, and artistic director of Music for Galway, Finghin Collins.

The musicians will perform the late work, and Brahms' most refined masterpiece, the second viola quintet Op 111; his only piano quintet, a work full of vigour and passion; while the show opens with Haydn’s exquisite Sunrise quartet. The concert takes place in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway, on Wednesday September at 8pm.
