Olwen Fouéré reads at Town Hall this Saturday

Acclaimed actor to read Déirdre Carr's epic poem, 'Tweet Tweet Mothertongue-Fatherland-Talamh Athair Snapchattin'

OLWEN FOUÉRÉ will read Déirdre Carr's epic poem, 'Tweet Tweet Mothertongue-Fatherland-Talamh Athair Snapchattin', in the Town Hall Theatre Bar this Saturday from 3pm to 6pm.

In this new series of works, Déirdre Carr reflects on what it can mean to be Irish. Five years in the making, she began the poem while living in France. She explores the idea of 'coming home' and how it can be complicated, as ‘home’ is not a given awaiting our return. She also examines major Irish symbols, such as the harp, shamrock, and Celtic cross, and asks if they can be reinvested with an energy to strip them of cliché.

Sound design and recordings for the reading will be by Diarmuid McInty. Admission is free. Patrons are invited to come and go as they please. The Town Hall bar will also host an exhibition of 26 tapestries.
