Fantasy Football week one review

One round down, 37 to go. The opening bout of the Premier League was a cracker with at least one goal being scored in every game. That means good news for Fantasy Football fans who believe an all out attack is best, but signals despair for those who built their teams around a strong back four and a reliable keeper.

The first week of the league meant it was the first round of the Galway Advertiser Tribal Leader League, in association with St Anthony's and Claddagh Credit Union. And what a week it was for our top three.

Third Place

Lincoln Red Gimps - 75 Points

Manager John Gerard Kyne selected two players who made the Fantasy Football dream team with Southampton goalie Brendan Foster, Kyne's last line of defence and Zlatan Ibrahimovic named up front as his vice-captain. Lincoln Red Gimps' captain for the week was Sergio Aguero who opened his goals account for the season by slotting home a penalty against Sunderland. Strong performances by Saints' Nathan Redmond and Chelsea's Eden Hazard secured a top three finish for Kyne and his Gimps.

Second Place

The Pog's Bollocks - 76 Points

Supremo Cormac Kennedy's charges' performance at the weekend really was the dog's ... you get the picture. Having Aguero up front and as his captain earned the team 18 points. Two dream team players; vice-captain Foster and Ibrahimovic plus strong midfield showings from Riyad Mahrez, Redmond, and Hazard sees The Pog's Bollocks get the season off to a flying start.

First Place

Mayo Vallecano - 77 points

More results like this could see manager Kevin Fahy get snapped up by Rayo, as Mayo Vallecano finished the weekend top of the Tribal Leader League. Fahy had the dangerous duo of Aguero and Zlatan up front but where Fahy won the tactical battle was in midfield where Anthony Martial, Erik Lamela, and Redmond controlled proceedings to send Mayo Vallecano to the top of the pile.
