Galway Garden Festival to be held on first weekend in July

This year’s acclaimed Galway Garden Festival will take place on Saturday July 2 and Sunday July 3 at Claregalway Castle from 11am to 6pm each day.

Entry is €10 and children are free in support of the Christian Blind Mission Ireland.

Guest Speakers will present on a variety of topics including ‘Chekhov’s healing garden’ (Dr Rosamund Bartlett ), ‘Botanic Art’ (Jane Stark ), ‘Tending your inner Garden’ (Dr Dermot O’Flynn ), ‘Peonies’ (Phil Havercroft ), ‘Getting the best from your roses’ (Alan Whetham ) and just back from Chelsea - the great Helen Dillon on ‘Evolution of a Garden’.

This is always a fun event with a variety of entertainers, including Fanzini Brothers Circus, Oddie Braddell, ‘Yer Man’s’ Puppets and Medieval Armoured Knights in combat. See www.galwaygardenfestival for full programme

There is a variety of music to suit all tastes with the St Patrick’s Brass Band, Corrib String Quartet, Nuada, Coole Music, Galway Baytones, Music Matters, Ragtime with ‘Stride’O’Brien, Moonlight Jazz band, University Choir, Aimee Banks, and more.

The Claregalway Botanical Art Expo is a well-established attraction at the festival, and a major event for Ireland’s foremost botanical artists. Many of the paintings on exhibition are for sale, along with limited edition prints, cards and other merchandise.

Trade stands will include nurseries, rare plant specialists and garden suppliers from across Ireland and will offer a wonderful range of plants, trees, seeds, garden furniture and equipment.

‘MADE IN GALWAY’ - supported by Galway County Council – is featuring again this year, where local craftspeople and artists showcase their work - the quality of exhibits here will be of great interest to a wide audience.

Gardening books, botanical art books etc will be available in the onsite Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop.

Freshly cooked food and drinks are available each day.
