Spring has sprung and it is the perfect time of year to declutter or do some redecorating. Is your house looking tired and in bad need of some TLC? Sometimes a lick of paint is all that is needed to take your rooms from drab to fab.
There is such an ample selection of colours out there that sometimes it is impossible to whittle the choices, and you can end up picking something very similar to the original colour you wanted to get rid of in the first place! Paint colour is something that needs a bit of thought as you are going to be looking at these walls everyday. Indeed, committing to a new colour can be a little bit scary, especially if it is a more dramatic shade than you are used to.
The types of questions you must ask yourself are do you like a variety of colours, or particular shades and tints of a specific colour? Do you like bold or muted shades? When selecting a color, it is also important to consider the mood of a room. In a bedroom do you want the feeling to be restful and soothing or dramatic? Soft, cool colors and neutrals usually create a quieter feeling, while stronger colours are for drama. There is also an option of changing just one wall to a brighter colour, which can really lift a room, but is not an overly dramatic change.
Do you want a dining area to feel sociable and stimulating or appear formal and quiet? Warmer, contrasting and somewhat brighter colours add to a sociable atmosphere; deeper blue-greens and neutrals will give a more formal ambiance. Do you want children's rooms to create an active and exciting energy or an orderly and restful feeling? Be careful not to overstimulate your children with intensely bright hues. You may not know it, but some brighter colours can lead to unrest and irritability.
