Principal resigns from city school

The principal of a city centre secondary school announced this week that she is resigning from her post.

Coláiste Iognáid principal Mary Joyce made the announcement at a Proclamation Day event in the school on Tuesday.

Ms Joyce, principal at the Jes since 2011, was involved in a High Court case relating to disciplinary action at the school last year. She secured an injunction in December against the school’s board of management.

Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Ms Joyce last August after a board of management report made certain findings against her. Lawyers for the principal argued that the findings were a fundamental breach of basic fair procedures.

The High Court granted Ms Joyce an injunction pending a full hearing on the matter.
