New book on Galway's role in 1916

COUNTY GALWAY played a significant roles in the 1916 Rising, seeing the most action outside of Dublin, and now those heroic, turbulent, violent, times are examined in a new publication.

Rebellion in Galway - Easter Rising 1916, by Kevin Jordan, examines why the Rising happened, the day to day activities in and around Galway during the Rising; profiles of 80 participants from the various groups involved; the social, economic and political state of Ireland at that time; agrarian related murders in Galway; chapters on the Irish Volunteers, the IRB, Cumann na mBan, the RIC, British officials, the GAA, and Galway MPs. It also lists up to 900 people involved in the Rising.

Kevin Jordan, originally from Athenry, has taught history for 34 years and is the deputy principal of Banagher College Coláiste na Sionna, Banagher, Offaly. There will be a number of launches for the book around the county - Oranmore Lodge Hotel, Monday March 14, 7.30pm; Galway Community College Moneenageisha, Galway, Tuesday 15, 8pm; Paddy Burke's, Clarinbridge, Wednesday 16, 7.30pm; Athenry Community Hall, Friday 18, 7.30pm; and Ballinasloe Library, Tuesday, 6.30pm. All are welcome.
