The Prettiots - Werner Herzog, sex, and sweet melodies

New York indie duo to play Róisín Dubh in February

"I LIKE to talk about Werner Herzog and sex." So says Kay Kasparhauser of New York indie duo The Prettiots, and she could also add Klaus Kinski to that declaration, given that her band have a song entitled 'Kiss Me Kinski'.

It's likely that The Prettiots - Kay Kasparhauser and Lulu Prat - also like Herzog's Aguirre The Wrath of God, starring Kinski, but that film's strangeness and intensity is in contrast to the quirky, melodic, and utterly beguiling indie-pop melodies, delivered via Kasparhauser's ukulele and heart on sleeve lyrics, backed by Prat's bass and harmony vocals - think of a more pop style Mouldy Peaches.

Galway will get a chance to hear and see The Prettiots when they play the Róisín Dubh on Friday February 19 2016 as part of their Irish tour. Before that the duo release their debut album, Funs Cool, via Rough Trade on February 5. As well as featuring the above song, '18 Wheeler', it also includes a cover of The Strokes’ 'Someday'. There are also further references to cinema/TV via the new single 'Stabler,' an ode to Elliot Stabler, the detective with a heart of gold from NBC’s Law & Order, as well as being a wistful examination of idealism in romantic relationships. As Kasparhauser told Rookie Magazine earlier this year: “My lyrics are completely honest…they’re 100 per cent true to my thoughts at any given moment. I like to talk about Werner Herzog and sex.”

The full track listing for Funs Cool is 18 Wheeler/Boys (That I Dated In Highschool )/Hope Yr Happy/Move To LA/Dreamboy/Suicide Hotline/Kiss Me Kinski/Skulls/Stabler/Anyways/Me And Little Andy/10/10 Would Chill Again.
