An old samurai gets a second chance

Galway Film Society to screen Uzumasa Limelight

JAPANESE FILM Uzumasa Limelight, is based around the experiences of the talented extras who featured in chanbara, the Japanese sword-fighting films and TV dramas.

Uzumasa Limelight, which won best feature and best actor at the 2014 Fantasia Film Festival, will be screened by the Galway Film Society in the Town Hall Theatre this Suinday at 8pm.

Kamiyama has devoted 50 years of his life to being a professional extra, but is faced with redundancy when the studio discontinues its chanbara productions. He still goes to the studio each day in hope of a new role, but there are none. Then actress Satsuki arrives, wanting to be Kamiyama’s pupil. With her star on the rise, and the studio deciding to take another chance on an old fashioned chanbara, will Kamiyama find work again?
