Andy McKee - the acoustic master returns

Guitarist to play Co Galway as part of November Irish tour

"LIKE AN explorer from the 16th Century, Kansas-born Andy McKee has taken uncharted waters with his instrument and is circumnavigating the globe of guitar possibilities, mixing traditions from American folk with Millennial sensibilities to create a whole new genre of not only playing, but approach to his trade."

So said Jazz Weekly about the extraordinary guitarist who comes to Ireland in November, and who plays Campbell’s Tavern, Cloughanover, Headford, on Saturday November 14, as part of that tour, with special guest, fellow guitarist Trevor Gordon Hall.

McKee's attention to song structure and melodic content, as well as his use of altered tunings, tapping, partial capos, percussive hits and a signature two-handed technique has impressed guitarists and admirers of virtuoso music for ; while his inspired interpretations of Tears For Fear's 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' and Toto's 'Africa', creating entryways for audiences outside the guitar bracket - as testified by more than 50 million YouTube views.

In 2012 Andy was asked by progressive metal icons Dream Theater to open their Asian tour, while Prince, who found him on YouTube, asked the guitarist to join his band for a series of shows in Australia. Last year, McKee launched the label, Mythmaker Records, the focus for which is gathering and developing the world's most creative and unique musicians in one place.
