The Rock Project is coming to Galway

Have you the next guitar star or drummer in your house? Do you want to learn to strut your stuff without having to fork out on expensive instruments?

If so, the Rock Project Galway is for you.

The Rock Project is a rock music school for 7-11 and 12-18 year olds to learn guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocals.

The ethos of The Rock Project is to get young people enjoying and learning an instrument together instead of just learning an instrument and playing it on their own.

After 10 very successful years and over 2,500 students in the UK, local man Gary Browne is bringing the Rock Project to Knocknacarra Community Centre, Cappagh Road, Galway, starting on Saturday October 17 at 12.30 pm.

Gary says that the Rock Project is so much more than just being a rock school as it caters for all levels and incorporates a holistic aspect to creativity.

“Studies are showing that children and young people who participate in music programmes score higher in academic fields and also develop lifelong skills in problem solving and creativity, that will stand to them throughout their lives”

“The sessions run for two hours every week which includes an hour of professional tuition along with an hour comprising band jamming and performance, to put into practice what they have learnt in their lesson.

“Members also take part in a weekly music quiz in teams and are able to socialise and make new friends,” he said.

The term runs in line with the school term, all abilities are catered for and The Rock Project provides the instruments at no extra cost.

The students even get to choose the songs to be learnt.

At the year-end all the students play at the Showcase concert, in front of friends and family.

“The opportunity to perform on stage at the year-end concert instils enormous confidence in children and young people. Time and time again the Rock Project has seen students coming in having just picked up their instrument, only to be rocking out at the year end. And it’s great fun,” he concluded.
