Vincent Cross to play the Galway Fringe Festival

BORN IN Dublin, raised in Australia, and now based in New York, singer-songwriter Vincent Cross never goes anywhere without his vintage Martin guitar, and he is coming to Galway next week to play the Galway Fringe Festival.

Cross, whose music is rooted in bluegrass and Americana, with touches of jazz and indie-rock, has released the albums Home Away from Home (2008 ) and A Town Called Normal (2013 ), and has received critical acclaim for his work.

Big City Rhythm & Blues has called his music “edge-pushing stuff"; the International Bluegrass Music Association declared him “a new high, lonesome edged lead voice on the bluegrass scene"; while NY Music Daily said "Cross has a way with aphoristic old-time vernacular".

However the highest praise has come from legendary African-Amercian folk singer Odetta who declared: "I heard a crystal clear voice that took me back to when I was being introduced to mountain music... It was a pleasure to hear such beauty coming out of Vincent Cross."

Cross has played with Odetta, Glen Hansard, Damien Rice, and Lloyd Cole and performed at the Long Island Bluegrass Festival. His music has alao been played on public radio in Nashville.

Vincent Cross plays DeBurgo's on Thursday July 23 as part of the Galway Fringe Festival. Support is from Galway singer-songwriter Ruth Dillon. See www.galwayfringe.ie and www.vincentcross.com
