Glenn Gibson exhibiting at Town Hall

GALWAY SCULPTOR Glenn Gibson is the latest artist to grace the exhibition space of the Town Hall Theatre bar with a show which opens there this Friday, June 26, at 6pm.

Glenn has led a somewhat nomadic life, having lived in England, Germany, and the USA before returning to his native Galway. Glenn left formal education and had stints working in cookery, decorating, building, sales, project management before finally returning to his true passion; art.

Glenn’s first public showing was in the Fisheries Tower in 1988 while still in his teens. A few years later, working in California, he began experimenting with wire and has spent the past 15 years working with the medium. He typically transforms raw industrial materials of steel and copper wire into fluid and visceral forms. In 2006 his work was showcased in Harvey Milk’s old camera shop in The Castro in San Francisco. This led to numerous private and corporate commissions. Ultimately, family commitments prompted Glenn’s return to Ireland and in 2008 he had his first Irish solo show.

Glenn has worked with clients from across the world, creating custom pieces to suit personal tastes and specific surroundings. In conjunction with the VEC, Glenn taught a 10 week course in sculpture, and building on this success wire work classes for beginners will be held again in the near future.
