Henry Shefflin to open Kilbeacanty’s new pitch

The 2015 Kilbeacanty seven aside hurling tournament takes place this June Bank Holiday Monday. This year’s competition coincides with the club’s 130 year anniversary celebrations and the official opening of the recently re-developed pitch in Kilbeacanty.

The club has announced that 10 time all Ireland winner Henry Shefflin will be in attendance to cut the ribbon and officially open the new pitch. His club and current all Ireland club champions Ballyhale Shamrocks will be competing on the day along with a host of local teams from Galway and Clare, including the reigning Kilbeacanty 7s and Galway county champions, Gort, and recent all Ireland club champions Saint Thomas’ and Clarinbridge.

This year, an amazing prize fund of €7,000 in hotel breaks and sports training vouchers is on offer to the winning team on behalf of the main sponsors of the tournament: The Lady Gregory in Gort, Eamon and Terry Shiel New York, Heineken Ireland, and other local sponsors who support the tournament every year.

Those in attendance will be treated to a barbecue throughout the day with Sean Walsh and the Galway Bay Roadcaster also on site. The day’s hurling will also include the finals of the Joe Gillane juvenile tournament. Celebrations will also be held after the event with McCarthy’s Bar providing live music from 7pm.

The juvenile finals will take place at 1pm followed by the 7s tournament at 2.45pm. For further information regarding the event contact a member of the Kilbeacanty Hurling Club committee or visit the club’s Facebook page.
