Corinthians win Ard na Cregg

Corinthians 3rd XV won the Ard na Cregg Cup final after a hard-fought battle with city rivals Our Lady's Boy's Club on Sunday.

Although the visitors to Cloonacauneen were first to score with a Thomas Gamble penalty, the home side replied with an Alan Quin intercept try, which fullback Kieran Dunne converted,

However Boys’ Club went into the break with a three-point lead after centre Noel Farragher side-stepped the cover to open their try tally, and Gamble added the extras.

Corinthians pack began to dominate after the break, and when lock Cormac McGuighan picked from the base of the scrum, it allowed centre Declan Loughnane to slip in for a fine touchdown, with Dunne adding the extras.

Boy's Club kept up the pressure and were eventually rewarded when Farragher claimed his second try, but Gamble was wide with the conversion. And it was the home side who had the last word, Dunne slotting a late penalty for a 17-15 victory.

Corinthians next outing is the final of the third's league against Connemara All Blacks next Sunday in the Sportsground.

Corinthians: K Dunne, D Loughnan, A Quinn, C Dunne, T Ketterick, S Duignan, J Kearns, C McGuckian, L Smyth, C Dyra, N Hogan, J Dilleen, N Casburn, J Barrett, T Hogan.
