Galway’s appeal as a business centre was highlighted yet again during a visit to the city by the US Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley.

Speaking at the Galway Chamber Spring Lunch, sponsored by KPMG, Ambassador O’Malley noted that many US multinationals had found Ireland to be a key part of their global innovation strategy, citing the recent example of Apple, which is to invest €850million on a new data centre in Athenry, creating 100 jobs.

Galway is a vibrant city noted for the quality of education, the arts and as a favourite tourist location. The city also has a reputation as a centre for business ranging from global names in sectors such as Medtech and IT to dynamic family and privately-owned Irish businesses.

Commenting on the visit, Brian Thornton, who heads KPMG’s team in Galway said: ‘Ambassador O’Malley’s presence in Galway and visit to our offices is confirmation of the appeal of Galway’s position as a city of commerce and a sign of continued confidence in the local economy’.

KPMG has been in Galway city since 1980. In 35 years, it has gone from strength to strength where it now employs over 70 professionals serving a diverse range of clients, both indigenous and foreign.

Last year marked another milestone in the development of KPMG in Galway city with the move to a beautiful new purpose designed office at Dockgate which will cater for the growing needs of the business in future years.

Everyone in Galway recognises how important it is that we work together in promoting the city for inward investment and to encourage emerging businesses. The role of the Chamber of Commerce and others in this regard is widely acknowledged, it was stated.
