Information evening on new Junior Cert cycle

An information evening on the proposed changes to the Junior Cert curriculum and assessment will be held in Galway next Wednesday, May 6 at 8pm. The event is being organised by the parents’ association of St Mary’s College, but is open to everyone concerned with the issue. The event will take place in St Mary’s main hall.

The purpose of the event is to inform parents about the proposed changes, and the impact they will have on their children’s educational experience and outcome.

Philip Irwin, president of ASTI will be at the event to outline the position of ASTI regarding the proposed changes, and the ensuing concerns of teachers. The Minister for Education, Jan O’Sullivan, has also been invited to attend, to explain to parents the nature of, and reasoning behind, the proposed changes.

“As parents, it is important that we are informed around these important proposals, in order to be able to fully engage in meaningful debate and discussion, to enable us to best represent the interests of our children,” a spokesperson for the parents’ association explained.

Parents of children in all schools are welcome to attend the evening.
