Galway camogie advance with ease

Galway’s senior camogie have advanced to the Irish Daily Star Camogie League division one semi-finals and will join Cork, Kilkenny and Limerick on April 22.

As winners of group one, Galway will meet the runners-up of group two, Kilkenny, in the semi-final.

Galway needed to overcome Wexford at the weekend to ensure their semi-final berth, and the young Galway team accounted for understrength Wexford by 2-23 to 0-9.

Although both sides were level early on, Galway, inspired by full forward Molly Dunne, were simply too strong for the Wexford ladies.

Orlaith McGrath added another brace to Dunne’s two points, and when Dunne fired to the roof of the Wexford net after good work from Niamh Kilkenny and Ailish O’Reilly, the writing was on the wall for Wexford.

Linda Bolger converted three frees, but Galway led by 1-14 to 0-6 at half time.

O’Reilly kick started the second half with a goal to seal the win, with substitutes Laura Mitchell and Jessica Gill adding to the scoresheet.

The McGrath sisters contributed 0-13 points - Niamh with 0-8 and Orlaith with 0-5 - Dunne finished with 1-3 and Niamh Kilkenny hit 0-4.

In the All Ireland Minor A Camogie Championship, Galway were 3-18 to 3-98 winners over Limerick in group one to qualify for the All-Ireland Minor Championship semi-finals.
