People encouraged to nominate volunteers for this year’s Mayor’s Awards

It is that time of year again to celebrate the great work of volunteers across the spectrum of community life in the city.

The Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Donal Lyons, is reminding people that the closing date for nominations for this year’s Mayor’s Awards is April 10.

This is the 12th year that the awards have been celebrated and nominations are invited to acknowledge the contribution made in Galway city by either individual volunteers or organisations.

There are seven individual Mayor’s Awards: Arts, Culture, Heritage & Cúrsaí Gaeilge Award, Residents & Local Areas Award, Community Service & Social Inclusion Award, Older Volunteer of the Year Award, Sports Volunteer of the Year Award, Children and Youth Support Award, and Young Volunteer of the Year.

In addition, Mayor Lyons will present the Galway City Council Volunteer of the Year Award to one deserving recipient.

Each of the award winners will receive a unique commissioned Galway Crystal trophy and a cheque for €500. All nominees will receive a specially designed certificate at the awards ceremony, to be held in May in the Radisson Blu Hotel.

More details on the Mayor’s Awards are available at www.galwaycity.ie or by telephone at 091 536 406. Nomination forms are available from City Hall, public libraries, and to download from www.galwaycity.ie
