Crowds gather as Aldi opens massive new store in Oranmore this morning

Aldi Stores (Ireland ) has this morning (Thursday ) opened a new superstore in Oranmore — at New Town Centre.

With a shop floor spanning 1,140sq m and 92 free car parking spaces, the new store will be Aldi’s eighth in Co. Galway. Aldi currently operates stores at Galway Retail Park, West City Centre Retail Park, Portumna, Clifden, Ballinasloe, Gort and Loughrea.

To celebrate the opening of Aldi’s Oranmore store, lucky customers will be treated to tasty breakfast delights prepared from Aldi’s broad range of breakfast products, as Aldi’s “Taste Truck” rolls into Oranmore. Five lucky Aldi shoppers will have the chance to scoop €100 in Aldi shopping vouchers each.

Aldi will also be offering a wide range of special opening offers at the new Oranmore store - all at amazing prices, including a smartphone, a bluetooth car stereo, a car twin dvd player, 32” HD TV and a microwave oven.

Aldi is committed to providing Irish consumers with a quality own label grocery offering at very competitive prices, which are guaranteed week in, week out. The new store will sell a core range of approximately 1,350 own label lines across a wide spectrum of products, including fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh meat and poultry, baked goods, milk and dairy, wines and beers, cosmetics and toiletries and household supplies.

In addition to Aldi’s core range, there will be a constant flow of one-off ‘Specialbuys’ available each Thursday and Sunday at massive discounts to the market. These ‘Specialbuys’ will include electrical items, textiles, gardening and household goods.

A proud supporter of Irish producers, Aldi has tripled its annual spend on Irish products over the past five years, helping maintain over 22,000 jobs across the Irish food industry. Since 2008 Aldi has almost doubled the number of Irish suppliers it works with. Over 50 per cent of Aldi’s supplier spend is with Irish suppliers, producers and manufacturers. All of Aldi’s fresh meats, fresh poultry, eggs, bread, flour, and many of its teas, coffees, soft drinks, waters and snacks come from leading Irish suppliers.

Aldi has established solid roots in many of Ireland’s local communities having developed longstanding partnerships with numerous Irish producers. Valued suppliers from the local area include Arrabawn Co-op, of Kilconnell, Ballinasloe, which supplies Aldi with fresh Irish milk and Galway-based companies Loughnanes and Galmere Fresh Foods, which supply Aldi with pork sausages and salads respectively.

Aldi’s Irish products have a strong track record of dominating national and international food awards.

Aldi’s products have won more awards in the last five years across the Great Taste, Blas na hÉireann and the Irish Quality Food and Drink Awards than any other retailer in Ireland.
