A young person’s view on teenage reality

LOTUS: A Play in Four Acts, written, produced, and directed by Rosa Jones, and featuring young Galway actors, will be performed in the Nuns Island Theatre this Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.

Written by 17-year-old Rosa, and featuring a cast aged between 17 and 19, it  deals with the growing pains, social pressures, loneliness, and anxiety felt by teenagers today. It is set one feverish night after a disillusioned 17-year-old Sam, played by Siofra Brogan, has her drink spiked.

What follows are four hallucinations - manifestations of her own guilt, fears for the future,  and feelings of isolation and imprisonment - told in the form of a disturbed mother, a manic shopkeeper, a good natured stoner, and a sinister, materialistic, doctor. What can Sam learn from this trip?

Tickets are €5 and are available on the door or online at www.galwayartscentre.ie
