Galway Ladies maintain first division pace

Galway Ladies and Dublin were forced to share the spoils, 2-9 to 1-12, after an entertaining division one round two clash in the Tesco Home Grown NFL.

Although Galway took a first-minute lead through Roisin Leonard, they struggled with the ferocious pace of Dublin who responded with three points on the trot.

The Dubliners kept Galway at bay by packing the defence, but when the home side did move the ball quickly, they were able to get behind the Dubs defence and Edel Concannon kept a cool head to score Galway's first goal.

Dublin hit back with a point from Sarah McCaffery and a goal from Eabha Rutledge, but a minute later Edel Concannon brought Galway back into the game with her second goal. With two minutes of the half remaining, an Annette Clarke free for a foul on Emer Flaherty after a great run through the middle, levelled the sides, but Niamh McEvoy pointed in the final minute to give the visitors a slim lead, Dublin 1-06. Galway 2-02.

The game remained tight after the start. An early Marie Hoey point was cancelled when Carla Rowe scored her third point after a super Johanna Connolly penalty save.

Tracy Leonard put Galway ahead with two points, but once again Dublin hit back with one each from Carla Rowe, Nicole Owens and Lucy Collins.

Galway hit a purple patch with three Clarke frees and a Leonard point, but a fifth Rowe point, followed by one from Sarah McCaffrey in the final minute of injury time ensured the visitors would share the spoils.
