She must be magic - Julie Feeney's new one woman show

Galway artist to have 10 night run in Dublin

JULIE FEENEY, the Athenry born composer, singer, producer, and orchestrator, is to perform shows in New York and Amsterdam, while her new one woman show is set for a 10 night run in Dublin.

The Galwegian, who first came to attention with her award winning debut album 13 Songs in 2005, and who most recent album, 2012’s Clocks, went Top 10 in Ireland - plays New York’s Mercury Lounge on March 7 and is in concert in Splendor, Amsterdam, on March 15, where she will be accompanied by Dutch musicians.

However, the most exciting news regarding this singular talent is that she will perform her new, one woman show, The Girl Who Believed in Magic, at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin from April 2 to 11, including previews, starting March 28.

As a child, Julie presented magic shows in her living room – complete with admission price, an assistant, a homemade cardboard-box sign, and an invited audience. This forms the springboard for the new show, directed by Mikel Murfi - well known to Galway audiences and last seen in Enda Walsh’s Ballyturk at the 2014 Galway International Arts Festival - and produced by Maura O’Keeffe. The designer is Paul Keogan and the costumes are by couture designer Umit Kutluk.

“I am delighted to be working with such a talented team,” said Julie. “In the meantime I am as busy as I can be finishing my opera Bird.”

An early draft of Bird has already received a staging in Galway. Let’s hope before 2015 is out Julie will be taking The Girl Who Believed in Magic westward for a run in Galway city.
