FORMER MEMBERS of The Guggenheim Grotto, Kevin May and Mick Lynch, have regrouped under the new moniker of Storyman, reimagining their sound in the process.
The Guggenheim Grotto enjoyed a fair degree of success, releasing three critically acclaimed albums and creating a sizeable fan-base both in Ireland and the USA. However May and Lynch, who have lived in Brooklyn for the last three years, felt the Grotto had run its course and that it was time for a fresh approach.
With producer Chris Kuffner, the duo began work on a new album designed to break The Guggenheim Grotto mould. The result, This Time Round, is an edgier, bigger affair, steeped in the rich musical history of New York, and featuring contributions from drummer Elliott Jacobson and singers Katie Costello, Lelia Broussard, and Hannah Winkler. However the duo’s signature mix of soaring melodies and emotional lyrics remain intact.
Storyman play upstairs at Kelly’s, Bridge Street, this Saturday at 10pm. Admission is €10. For more information contact 091 - 563804 or email [email protected]
