Renmore flower and gift shop to help fund Galway hospice

A newly opened flower and gift shop in the city will raise vital funds to help meet the €1.5 million required to finance a number of Galway Hospice services.

The Forget me Not Flower and Gift shop at 18 Renmore Road, which is owned by Galway Hospice Foundation, will assist the organisation fund its home, day care and bereavement support services.

The shop will provide a large range of fresh flowers and bespoke floral arrangements for all types of special occasions. It will offer a free same-day delivery service to the city with a nominal charge for deliveries to surrounding areas.

The shop is managed by Maureen Dooley, an award-winning florist who is known for her innovative and creative floral arrangements. She qualified as a graphic and commercial designer before working as a wedding florist in California.

She relocated to Craughwell in 2003 and ran a flower shop for a number of years. She later specialised as a wedding florist. For the past few months she has been developing the hospice shop with a team of dedicated volunteers. Mayor of Galway city Donal Lyons officially opened the facility on Tuesday. Ms Dooley will be assisted by a team of volunteers whom she has trained in flower arranging.

Michael Craig, Galway hospice’s fundraising manager, says the profits from the shop will be used to develop and fund hospice services.

“Anyone purchasing flowers and gifts from the shop can be assured that they are directly supporting the delivery of hospice home care, day care and bereavement support services, which are provided free of charge to patients for as long as they are needed.”
