Knocknacarra take all-Ireland title

Sunday August 24 was a proud day for Knocknacarra, Connacht, and Galway soccer.

In Athlone, the Knocknacarra under 12 team, after already becoming Galway and Connacht champions, having defeated Ulster in the semi-final yesterday, faced into a tough all Ireland final against the Munster champions.

Mathew Thompson opened the scoring for Knocknacarra after they conceded an early goal against the run of play.

Mikey Crowe made it 2-1 and sub Robert Madden made it 3-1.

Munster got another with four minutes left but Brian Tolan in defence and keeper Tony Barrett defended resolutely. Daniel Hoare came on for Mark Mannion in midfield and continued Mark’s great work. Robert Madden narrowly missed the target with the keeper beaten in the last minute and, although the referee played two minutes extra, Knocknacarra finished with a worthy 3-2.

This trophy now gets added to the Galway and Connacht championships and the Galway FA U10 Premier Cup that these boys won earlier this season.
