Galwegians are welcoming the return of the newly refurbished An Púcán bar at 11 Forster Street - just off Eyre Square.
One of Galway's oldest bars, An Púcán has been lovingly restored to well beyond its former glory and now offers daily music sessions, full food menu, and a superb drinks selection including the finest in Irish craft beers in addition to some 140 remarkable whiskeys from Ireland and around the globe.
At the helm are dynamic duo Conall O Cíobháin and Philip Duignan. The pair have a welcoming, friendly nature, and are well experienced in the food, beverage, and entertainment needs of Galway.
O Cíobháin and Duignan have previously run bars and venues such as The Skeffington Arms Hotel, Dela Restaurant, The Kings Head, and Cuba and The GPO nightclubs, and are excited about their new launch.
On the updated layout O Cíobháin says, “The venue is in two sections. There is a traditional feel to the front bar with beautiful ornate solid wood decor, Liscannor stone floors, vintage piano, cosy session corner and private booths. The back bar is open plan with a modern twist featuring quirky details like the 'Stairway To Heaven', the priceless copper wall and stained glass detail. It is comfortable and spacious and is a really great late night entertainment venue”.
The makeover of the venue speaks for itself with attention to detail everywhere from lighting to furnishings, and the fantastic in-house sound system. Conall and Philip are keen that quality is central to what An Púcán is about.
“With the best folk, traditional, country and blues music seven nights a week and great live music and DJs in the back we are striving to deliver the highest quality of product and service,” says Philip. “And this weekend we are adding a range of cocktails. We'll have long drinks, short drinks, shooters and sharers - come on in and try our new Black Barrel Whiskey Sour.”
