SpunOut predicts great year despite cuts

Despite facing funding cuts, Galway based charity SpunOut.ie is nonetheless “excited and confident about the year ahead”. SpunOut.ie reaches more than 30,000 young people each month through health, lifestyle, and citizenship factsheets, moderated peer support forums, signposting to support services, and a platform for youth media and civic engagement.

However it is likely to be affected by the current health funding cuts and while SpunOut.ie founder Ruairí McKiernan said this is “hugely disappointing”, the charity remains committed to its plans for the year.

For 2009, SpunOut.ie will look to expand its youth mental health initiative, which is currently being rolled out throughout the north west. It will also develop resources and events in the area of youth activism and citizenship, and redeveloping www.SpunOut.ie to make it more participatory and interactive.
