Cancer charity to hold women’s adventure race

The child-cancer charity Barretstown is encouraging women to take part in the Women’s Adventure Race in Leenane, Co Galway, on July 26 2014.

Covering a distance of 27km, the race will involve cycling, running, and kayaking on a course around Killary Harbour in Connemara.

The Women’s Adventure Race, Ireland’s first and only women’s adventure race, began in 2013 in Leenane, and saw more than 200 women take part.

The race is organised by Gaelforce Events.

Race director Mona Purcell said: “At Gaelforce Events, we felt that many women were discouraged from entering adventure races by the thought of lining up beside a mainly male field of entrants. We wanted to organise a race where women could come along and support each other and feel the sense of triumph you get on crossing the finish line.”
